A lot of people are expressing interest in
a truck that Chevy hopes will be a
breakthrough
vehicle for them. This is Jeff Gilbert,
with
The Car Chronicles coming up on WWJ

The Chevy Avalanche--a new kind of
pickup-SUV
hybrid---is garnering a lot ofinterest
in
cyberspace. Brand Manager Ed Shoener
says
more than four hundred thousand people
have
visited their web site, and a lot of
them
have been asking for information
We had over seventy thousand people
either
give us their home address, ortheir
e-address
asking us to give them more information.
The Avalanche is a full sized SUV that
can
be converted into a full sized pickup
in
just a few minutes. GM unveiled it
at this
year's auto show, but it won't actually
be
out for a while
We're going to start production in
the first
quarter of '01, so we're getting pretty
close.
Shoener says the Chevy Avalanche should
be
in dealerships by next summer.

Chevy steps up the marketing pressure
on
a vehicle that won't even be in dealerships
for another year. This is Jeff Gilbert,

Even though the Chevrolet Avalanche,
pickup-SUV
combo won't be in dealerships for another
year, the company is going to start
taking
the vehicles to state and county fairs,
so
that people can see it
This is a grass roots effort to get to where
the people are, to go to events where people
go to.
Avalanche Brand Manager Ed Shoener
says the
Avalanche is very unique, a full sized
SUV
that converts to a full sized pickup.
And
while, yes, they started showing it
off a
year and a half before anybody could
actually
buy the vehicle, that's not a problem
It offers us a unique opportunity to
unveil
it, show people what the features are.
So,
that if they are interested in a vehicle
like this, they
know it's coming.
It also may keep people from buying
a competitors
product. Shoener says more than four
hundred
thousand people have visited a web
site devoted
to the Avalanche.
